The key is to strike a balance in the face of NCMPs, which WP is doing right. In other words opposition should take NCMP on their own terms. Lilian was voted out, not some new face who lost. Not taking NCMP is right. Gerald Giam is also right to take NCMP for only one term. Second time still lose, let others take.
It is each party's prerogative to decide how to handle the NCMP issue.
The pertinent question here is: how would LLL's rejecting the NCMP seat affect her chances of winning back PE in the next GE? Or, for that matter, another WP candidate standing in her place?
If a significant number of voters are upset over this decision, she can kiss her hopes of regaining PE good-bye. On the other hand, if this chastens them and wakes them up to fact that you'd jolly well vote oppo if you want oppo in parliament, this may work in her favour.
Ultimately it's between LLL/WP and PE voters.
