[h=1]14-07-20: Hari Raya Food Ration Distribution[/h]Updated <abbr title="Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 1:58pm" data-utime="1405835933" class="timestamp">on Saturday</abbr> · Taken at Blk 182 Rivervale Cresscent

Punggol East SMC Hari Raya food ration distribution took place on 20 July 2014 at the usual Blk 182 rental block. Such regular food ration distribution event was not uncommon sight to the residents living in the rental block. An hour before the distribution started, residents were already seen queuing up in an orderly fashion and waited patiently for their turns to collect their food ration items. This time round, we also had 2 youths from the Lions Youth Exchange program who joined us. We hope that these young girls from Japan will learn more about sharing and giving through this simple but yet meaning food ration distribution program and in time to come, be able to contribute to society in a meaningful way. Once again, we would like to thank our sponsor for their generosity, as well as volunteers for their time and effort.

In the morning we distributed Hari Raya food ration at Blk 182 and in the late afternoon we were back again at the same spot to distribute Hari Raya porridge. Muslim residents collected the porridge for their break fast, while non-Muslims were very happy to have them for dinner. On our invitation, volunteers from Darul Arqam (the Muslim Converts’ Association) set up a beautiful booth across from us, gave out educational books and engaged interested residents to learn about Islam. Our very own volunteers learned a thing or two about Islam. All very fitting, as tomorrow we commemorate Racial Harmony Day and recite the Declaration of Religious Harmony.

Similar to last year, Li Lian was invited to this 7th moon festive celebration organised by residents staying around Blk 188D Rivervale Drive. This organization, which started more than 10 years ago, is still running strong and supported by like minded neighbours that come together to organise, plan and execute this event. It is a great opportunity to build comradeship and support among people staying in the same neighbourhood.
