PUB should have kept public better informed

I AM dismayed at PUB's lack of initiative in keeping the public posted during the island-wide floods yesterday.
While the freakish weather was unavoidable, there was a lack of official updates through both the mainstream media and national water agency's website.
The only authoritative voice was a vague heavy rain warning from the Meteorological Services Division. As a result, people were forced to rely on conflicting media accounts which in turn depended on unreliable witness reports.
The dissemination of localised, accurate and up-to-date information is a vital component of hazard management. This allows people to assess the risk and make an informed decision.
Unfortunately, such a system was lacking when the floods occurred. I hope the PUB will learn from this experience and establish the necessary infrastructure as soon as possible.
