Fare data based on actual trips taken, say transport bodies

WE THANK Mr Elvin Ong for his support last Thursday ('Why a fairer fare policy is facing undue criticism') of distance-based fares.

The impact analysis for the distance fares was based on actual data collected through our fare system, and is reflective of the prevailing travel patterns of our commuters. This data source is comprehensive as it is based on all actual trips taken by commuters using their contactless smart cards.

In considering the impact on commuters, the Public Transport Council looked at the weekly rather than daily travel patterns - as most commuters make a combination of direct and transfer journeys during the week.

The travel patterns and fare data collected from the fare system enabled the council to project the impact of distance fares on our commuters' weekly expenditure.

We note Mr Ong's comment that the basis of the council's analysis could have been better communicated and will strive to do better in this regard in future.

They will always defend their decisions. It will be futile to argue with them. Wasting our time and breath. Better go to Geylang and 'cuchi mata' than arguing with bureaucrats who have lost the sense of suffering of the lower income earners.

What is "impact analysis, daily and weekly travel pattern, cobination of direct and transfer journey during the day/week?"

How do they know individually the travel pattern of the commuter?

What our MPs are doing now is also beyond my understanding. Are they working for the government or for the people they represent?
So many cry out, but so few come to their rescue.

The interests of SMRT is top priority.

That's the problem here.

If it’s an issue of concern, why can’t LBW question the transport authority immediately???

Parliament sitting is just wayang only, no??? Forward questions in advance and give them ample time to come up with excuses. Chey!!! One wayang too many, we already know what the ending to be like, liao!!!

We don't need a PTC to side the greedy transport companies. You die, your business.
