If a Chinese chauvinist (LTK) plays by PAP rules, they close two eyes. Lots of Chinese chauvinists within PAP as well. One of them suffers from night blindness in Serangoon Road.

Bro, many people and me were right behind SDP when Chiam brought in Chee. I could not understand why Chee did so badly against a noob like Matthias Yao In MacPherson after making so many challenges and taking up much of the press coverage. The margin was a shocking 30% after making so much noise. Then it dawned on me and others - the guy and party does not walk the ground, talk to voters or attempt to engage voters. Chee wasted 20 years of our time. Time to step aside.

If VW and PT are keen to lead, many people will surge forward with the SDP. Chee can do Singaporeans a big favour if he joins or leads an NGO or move to the US where people regard him well. You said you were Chinese but could not speak Chinese (or Mandarin) well. What a fertile imagination? Where did such words and expression of view come from? Did LTK say this? Did I utter this in some moment of madness? Show me.

Let me give it straight to you. I have my entire education in an English medium environment and at an age where second language was not as widely appreciated as today. Although I studied Chinese as a second language, it was never to the level as standard Chinese today, not to say Higher Chinese. Neither do I think that LTK who is evidently someone with a Chinese-educated background would be so shut off from the rest of the society that he had locked himself up only in his Chinese environment. Because I know of many Chinese-educated friends and colleagues who speak more English than Chinese in their daily life because the environment demands it. I had been very surprised to discover that they would feel very uncomfortable engaging a PRC Chinese in a business or technical discussion. Even they could feel some inferiority complex in their own language inadequacy.

Yes, I watched a programme on CCTV where they interviewed the Old Fart. Everything else was in Mandarin, interviewer's and audience's questions, but the Old Fart replied only in English.

From his autobiography, he took training in Mandarin from a translator at the state owned TV station when he was Chief Minister. Don't know if he paid for those lessons out of his own pocket or from the PMO's budget. If the latter, we did not get a good deal.
