Don't cast protest vote

<!-- by line --> By Sue-Ann Chia SENIOR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT
http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_482991.html

THE current contentious issue on the affordability of public housing was given another airing by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew who cautioned Singaporeans not to cast a protest vote against the ruling party over this.
As Singaporeans lament about rising flat prices, he said they ought to understand the Government sells them at a subsidised price, below market rate, so that they can own an asset that will appreciate in value over the years. It adds to their wealth and this is asset-enhancing policy Mr Lee believes citizens should not find fault with.
If they do, they must be 'daft', he said at a dialogue during a housing conference as part of a series of events to mark the Housing Board's (HDB) 50th anniversary.
And if National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan is unable to defend this policy, 'he deserves to lose' at the next General Election, he quipped to laughter from the participants, including a chuckling Mr Mah.
But if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, he warned that Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as it would no longer be of any value.
Mr Lee's blunt remarks were in response to a question by dialogue moderator Tommy Koh, who pulled out a Straits Times report which said at least three opposition parties are keen to contest Tampines GRC that Mr Mah helms, as they want to raise the affordability of public housing as an election issue to gain votes.
Read the full report in Thursday's edition of The Straits Times.

no better timing for sinkies to cast protest vote.

ho ching useless handling of cpf money.
FT flooding the city, inflating house price and deflating real wages.
no world cup.

let say that PAP manage to win 100%, then they will feel so secure that who know what crap policy lies in wait after the election.

even if sinkies want to keep PAP in power, they should cast a protest vote to give PAP a black eye, so they will serve us better.

What the average Ah Seng has not realised is PAP will introduce electronic voting going forward. No chance to cast protest vote.

PAP needs the 75% majority to stay ahead of the pack.

MM Lee is CUNNINGLY clever by using the word PROTEST VOTE aka SPOILT VOTE. for those disgruntled S'porean voters.

DON'T SPOIL YOUR PRECIOUS VOTE
A spoilt vote (protest vote) is INEFFECTIVE in removing a lousy MP or Minister from his Parliamentary seat in a 1st past the post voting system. If every disgruntled voter spoilt their votes, MBT still gets into parliament because his supporters' valid votes would get him elected.

To defeat a PAP candidate, forget about protest or spoilt votes. Make every precious vote count by voting for the opposition. Its like a football match, only goals count, spoilt (protest) votes are not goals shot into MBT's goalpost to defeat him. Spoilt votes are like shooting blanks in a war, it doesn't destroy the enemy.

HDB PRICES
The word MARKET SUBSIDY should not even be used by a govt body. It is SNEAKY & IMMORAL for a public housing govt dept to use that word.

If it is public housing, HDB should be selling flats to 1st home buyers at COST PRICE. Why must HDB sell flats at a profit? After all, there are plenty of restrictions on who can qualify for HDB flats. The sale price difference between HDB flats and private condomiumium is totally irrelevant and so too should the phrase; 'market subsidy' . It is IRRELEVANT where HDB flats are concerned.

It is as absurd as saying the difference in fees paid by a student in a neighbourhood school and one who studies at the 100% private Australian International School is a govt subsidy.
