Changi airport is so right at the end of Singapore, so it make sense to have HSR at the other end of Singapore.
 
They should have studied before that HSR terminal at Jurong East will bring more economic benefits than in Tuas.
By doing so it will help to spur up the development surrounding Jurong East compare to Tuas which is too near to JB Nusajaya and may has been identified as a potential stop of HSR in Iskandar Malaysia.

Sumitomo keen on construction of KL-S'pore high-speed rail

KUALA LUMPUR - Japan’s Sumitomo Corp is keen to be involved in the construction of the estimated RM40 billion (S$15.5 billion) high-speed rail linking Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.

The tender process for the mammoth project is expected next year, which is seen attracting a flurry of international companies.

It is likely that companies from Japan, China, France and even Spain will form partnerships with local firms to bid for the project, which is slated for completion by 2020.

Competition in the railway segment in Asia has been intense, with Japanese and Chinese companies bidding for the rising number of rail jobs, given the pace of economic growth and rising population in the region.

“We are now trying to promote Japanese technology for the project, including that of our partners like East Japan Railway Co (JR-East) who have been successful in the construction of the bullet train in Japan. They have the technology and knowhow to operate the high-speed rail project,” Sumitomo Corp Asia and Oceania Pte Ltd (KL branch) general manager Junichi Yano told StarBiz.

“Sumitomo is also in talks with the relevant authorities, including Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), on the proposed project. At this juncture, we have not put in any tender for the project but hope to do so by next year,’’ Yano said.

Yano said this after the launch of Sumitomo’s online store, Soukai.my, in Malaysia yesterday.

Reuters had in a recent report said a Japanese consortium had begun groundwork ahead of bidding for the high-speed rail project.

The report said four major companies comprising JR-East, Sumitomo, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries had intended to offer the efficiency and reliability of Japan’s Shinkansen bullet train system.

Recently, the Asahi Shimbun quoted JR-East vice-chairman Masaki Ogata at a railway conference and exhibition in Kuala Lumpur as saying the company hopes to win the bid for the construction of the high-speed railway project which would cover about 350km.

SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal had earlier said it would likely hold the bidding for the project between October and December next year.

Sumitomo is currently involved in the construction of the mass rapid transit (MRT) project track works linking Sungai Buloh and Kajang. It is also involved in power plant and steel-related projects, fertiliser production and the telecommunications business in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Sumitomo subsidiary Sumisho Ecommerce Malaysia CEO Tetsu Nagashima said that RM15.6mil had been invested in Soukai.my, an e-commerce service.

Anyway, best not to speculate too much unless you have super thick inside cables!

I guess it will be somewhere along the road of Jalan Tanjong Labuh which can lead to Pontain and 2nd link

High Speed Rail was built in mind to move lots of people between Singapore and KL FAST and should therefore have as little stops as possible between the 2 final points .
Unlike the MRT where each stop takes no more than 1 to 2mins for commuters to hop in and out, for the HSR, every stop will take up at least a min of 10 to 15 mins for passengers with their luggage to disembark/alight and to get seated before moving off.
2 extra stops will extend the trip by nearly half an hour!

Those who have travel on the Shinkansen or those in Europe should know this; HSR are supposed to be between big cities
Furthermore, how many passengers are expected to travel every hour of everyday on the train from, say, Air Hitam, or even Seremban to KL or SG??

Putrajaya should be out, and Malacca in.....Malacca is such a popular tourist spot, and Putrajaya is so near to KL. It should be KL, Seremban, Malacca, Batu Pahat & Nusajaya. Strange decisions....

The real gem is Cyberjaya which is very near to Putrajaya.

If you follow the HSR news, there are plans for a direct KL-Nusajaya-SG express service as well, besides the indirect service which stops over at Seremban, Batu Pahat etc...

There are a lot of cheap, undeveloped land in Putrajaya and Batu Pahat.

Agree. Malacca should be in. Putrajaya is the administrative capital, so a stop has to go there. Besides, it's close to KLIA. I wonder why batu pahat.

Anyway, I don't mind if the singapore station is at jurong east :D

Right now, the administration is already trying very hard to balance the serious budget deficit.
Even with the implementation of GST next year and the very recent petrol hike which saved Putrajaya only about RM1.1billion, can they still manage to fork out a budget of RM40billion for the HSR??
Wait for Budget 2015 and see if there's any fund allocation for this mega project.
