THE terrorist siege at Rasa Sentosa Resort was over in minutes.
But for the elite forces that stormed the seaside hotel, it took years of planning, training and coordination to build up the capability to neutralise the terrorists in one swift strike.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who witnessed the anti-terrorism exercise, said Singaporeans can be assured that the Home Team and Singapore Armed Forces will keep them safe.
'So when you see something happen today - the helicopters, the commandos, police ... It's not just that they are alert and ready to go, but we spent a long time doing this.
'And I think that's what our safety and security and peace of mind, and (our) stability and prosperity ultimately depends on. And we are very grateful to the home team and the SAF for keeping us safe.'
He made these points at the end of the three-day Exercise Northstar VII, which involved more than 2,000 servicemen and officials from 15 agencies.
The exercise was aimed at raising public awareness and boosting public confidence, as well as testing contingency plans and the operational readiness of the emergency response forces here.
