I don't think it will go on as before. There will be change and it will come from many quarters. People in the PAP, sr civil servants, people previously associated with the establishment will now speak up.

Not Many are aware that people who have spoken up before had been removed. posted to siberia, and he had an interesting way to do it. He would also move the boss and anyone who supported the person who raised the issue. Peers thus was important to ensure that no one stepped out of line. The son picked it up as well as Peter Lim would testify. I don't thnk he will get away with it. The most outstanding case was the removal of Pillay from MAS and Ministry.

Taiwan Ah Bian used the power of sympathy votes to the fullest after his wife met an accident and become wheel chair bonded. I observe politics in the region very intensively and learned quite a lot of things in the process.

I don't see what you've learned or anything worth learning if you're comparing sympathy for a woman in her prime wheelchair-bound by accident and a woman in ripe old age stop breathing.

It is not so much on "sympathy votes" but rather the possibility of prevention of chaos if LKY falls suddenly.

It would be easier for PM Lee to consolidate his position while his father is still around. With the passing of his mother, his father may be in a very vulnerable position emotionally which may affect his health.
