Do you think there is an urgency for PAP/PM to call for snap poll in view of the death of his mother? What are the permutations involved here?

The PAP is not so foolhardy to play the sympathy card. They know voters will not buy that gimmick. And it is not their style.

I think we should not make speculative gestures based on the demise of Mdm Kua. Let us just pen our condolence and reserve the politics angle until after 6 October.

LKY cry during separation from Malaysia was a well-scripted wayang of the first degree. The PAP are indeed capable of the lowest level of human behaviour. But to call an election so soon will only backfire.

Besides, in the days and weeks to come, more Singaporeans will know of how the gecko enriched herself thanks to the millions of dollars of contributions from Singaporeans to her many bussinesses.

It is not so much on "sympathy votes" but rather the possibility of prevention of chaos if LKY falls suddenly.

It would be easier for PM Lee to consolidate his position while his father is still around. With the passing of his mother, his father may be in a very vulnerable position emotionally which may affect his health.

Will not be surprised for PAP to stoop low enough to call for a snap election to use sympathy votes (and there will be for KGC). Strange to find GMS to believe in such gentlemanly contest in Singapore, naive to believe that LHL will keep his word for releasing the boundaries 3 months earlier for oppositions to prepare, naive to believe that LHL will open up 12 SMC seats for the oppositions.

Dear Scroobal,

Thank you for your compliments. Taiwan Ah Bian used the power of sympathy votes to the fullest after his wife met an accident and become wheel chair bonded. I observe politics in the region very intensively and learned quite a lot of things in the process.

The ground sentiments are pretty bad for PAP at the moment but this event may just turn it around completely. But LKY himself will be another variable.

We are stepping right into Post-LKY era completely unprepared as a Nation. The possible implications are pretty scary.

SINgapore will go on, with or without Lee Kuan Yew. There maybe some, titling here & there, but the PAP will remain in control, but with a lesser majority. Any empire or ruling family, the sun will set & they will fade out, as the last leaf from the old trees, FALL!
