Anyone can recommend reliable portable aircon? Tecno is $699 +100 installation fees at Courts. Min temp is 16deg. Most brands provide min 18deg. Some brands are about 2/3 of the price. Any suggestion?

What do you mean by portable aircon ? If it's really portable, then you don't have to install. Or are you referring to casement aircon ?

Classified as portable but not really portable. It's on the ground level and less expensive.

Nowadays people don't use anymore as it is verlee bulky and leequires a window outlet.
Last time people use it as there were no single unit compressor in the market besides encasement kind.
A single unit compressor kind is onlee slightlee higher price then portable.

People are still using that these days?

Long long time ago, my home had a 'portable aircon' unit. It's beige, about 1m in height, and can be pushed around as it had wheels beneath it. You had to keep filling it up with water, there's a container in the front compartment. And clean the filters from time to time.

That was back in the day when rotary dial phones were still around, and not all households had an electric water heater. To get a hot shower, you needed to boil the water in a kettle first, then mix with cold water until the water has a temperature you want.

If aircon requires you to fill it with water don't buy. Never cold enough and requires cold water to be effective.

That one is air cooler not portable air con lah
Air cooler put ice cubes and topup water. is useless during hot weather

Are you still using that giantic flower pot with dragon motifs adorned on the sides?

The one that need to fill up cold water and ice is cooler not aircon, based on salesman I talked to yesterday. That's why cooler is much less ex than portable aircon, I think.

Noted. My room has aircon but the room that I planning to rent out is without. So thinking of buying a portable one.

I don't think s portable air con for indoor use is possible as you need to discharge the heat sbsorbed in the room to somewhere else

Previously, they tried using water to sbsorb that heat. But the moisture ended up evaporated causing room to be just as humid or slightly less humid. But its not as effective

It works just like any aircon, except it is groundbased & the air blows up instead of usual wall mounted aircon mounted on wall blowing down.

It comes with a tube hose to be fixed to a window for air intake & comes wth fixtures such as 3m tape & plastic cover to seal the opened window.

However, you will need to check with supplier for the type of window that the fixtures supplied, as not all windows are the same.

There are many models in the competitive market & prices. It is the BTU that you need to look for - the higher it is, the stronger & colder it will be

For portable Aircon, because the condenser is within your home, you have to deduct at least one third off the published BTU.

I would recommend you this 20000 BTU portable from Europace. I bought one to standby previously because my Aircon system was dying slowly. It came in handy in between the finally dead old Aircon system and the installation of the new Started Aircon system.

I was told that Resorts World Sentosa bought 100 units of this Europace 20000BTU model to standby in case their Aircon system fails.

Anyway, I have already installed my new R32 Starmex. It's definitely a notch better than portable air-conditioners.

Hope the above is helpful.

I would also advise you to watch this video before making a purchase.
