A Shanghai city resident had purchased a kilogramme of pork from a wet market on Yang Gao North Road that glowed with a blue light in the dark.
Miss Chen had used a portion of the pork to make dumplings for her family that evening after she bought the pork.
She noticed a blue glow from her kitchen when she woke up at night to use the bathroom.
When she went to investigate, she saw that the blue light was coming from the pork, said a China Smack report.
To make sure she was not dreaming, she woke up her family to witness this strange sight who decided they will not eat this pork for safety reasons.
Miss Chen contacted a China Smack reporter to look at the blue pork who reported in the article that the pork did emit a faint blue light and when handled, the blue glow was also seen on the fingers of the person who held the meat.
The reporter got hold of two food experts who said the glow may be caused by bacteria.
Shanghai Health Supervision Department food experts say the pork that has been contaminated by phosphorescent bacteria is still safe to consume after cooking and heating.
China Smack also mentioned that in February 2010, Changsha city residents had discovered blue light in their pork purchases too.
The Changsha Food Safety Commission took part in an investigation to find out the cause of this glow.
Through scientific bacteria cultivation separation, experts discovered that the “blue glow pork” was caused by secondary bacterial contamination which was not harmful for consumption.
