SINGAPORE: Flash floods occurred at Veerasamy Road and Thomson Road on Friday due to heavy rain.
National water agency PUB issued this flood alert at about 2.30 pm and urged motorists to avoid the affected roads.
The flood waters subsided at about 2.45 pm.
The Meteorological Service had said that there'll be moderate to heavy thundery showers between 1.40 pm and 3.00 pm.
Over at Liat Towers, which has been hit by flooding recently, the flood barriers were activated at about 2.30 pm.
At Lucky Plaza, retailers also braced for possible flooding.
Those whose shops are at the basement level told Channel NewsAsia that the management of the building has provided sandbags for them to use if the need arises.
However, some show owners have said that this is not enough.
Ang Cheng Kwee, manager of APO Foto & Electronics, said: "Of course there is room for improvement, because I don't think the sandbags will block the water from coming in."
Another retailer said he saw maintenance workers pumping water out of a drain along the pedestrian walkway as the water appeared to be rising quickly.
Some retailers have suggested that a shelter be built along the walkway, to prevent rain from coming into the shops.
Lucky Plaza management said it is in the process of putting in place flood barriers after getting in-principle approval from the Urban Redevelopment Authority in October.
PUB said it will work with Lucky Plaza to ensure that an effective flood prevention system is implemented quickly.
Lucky Plaza had been hit by flooding three times in less than two years.
