A US national Gallup Poll as shown President Barack Obama's approval rating is lower than that those of his predecessor George W. Bush at the same point in his presidency.
Obama's approval rating stands at 55 per cent six months into his tenure.
56 per cent of those polled had approved of the job done by George W. Bush after six months.
With pessimism growing over the state of the economy, Americans have started to question Obama's handling of the downturn.
Respondents also said they disapproved of Obama's health care policy by 50 per cent to 44 per cent.
Despite the numbers, the survey found that Obama remains personally popular and a strong and decisive leader who understands day to day family problems.
