Police nab two men for robbery and snatch theft

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested two men, aged 34 and 56, who are believed to be responsible for two separate cases of robbery and snatch theft committed in Ang Mo Kio housing estate.
The first case happened on October 1. The male victim reported to the Police that a stranger had snatched S$100 cash from him on Ang Mo Kio Street 51.
Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and managed to establish the identity of the suspect.
At about 5pm on October 7, the 56-year-old suspect was tracked down and arrested in the vicinity of Lorong Ah Soo.
The second case took place on October 6.
The victim made a police report that he was robbed of S$1,500 worth of cash, jewellery, a mobile phone and a tablet on Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.
The victim said a man had approached him for a loan. When he turned down the suspect's request, he was assaulted and robbed of his belongings.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division worked on the case promptly.
With the help of police cameras mounted in the estate and information received from the public, the officers narrowed down and identified the suspect, who was arrested on Bukit Timah Road on October 7 at about 1pm.
The 34-year-old suspect will be charged in court on October 9 for robbery with hurt.
If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 20 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
As for the 56-year-old man, investigations are ongoing for the snatch theft.
If convicted, he can be jailed up to seven years.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San, commended the officers for their prompt investigative work which led to the apprehension of the suspects.
He also urged the public to be cautious with their belongings and not to flaunt their valuables in public.
