Policemen recently staked out the junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road to catch speed demons.

The traffic junction was recently in the spotlight after a car crash involving a Ferrari and a taxi claimed three lives.

On 21 May, reporters staked out the area and found six cars beating the red light over three hours.

On Thursday morning, more than ten police officers were seen staking out the junction at 3am.

A retiree known only as Mr Ye passed by the area and described to reporters that the policemen were standing in the alleys holding cameras to catch speedsters.

The 60-year-old explained that a policeman would step out to stop vehicles that were speeding.

“They already stopped a taxi and several cars to give them tickets,” said Mr Ye.

But there were also vehicles that slowed down and crossed the junction carefully after seeing police activity.

Curious pedestrians also stopped to watch the operation with the understanding that this is a follow-up action to address the widespread concern over the recent crash.
