SINGAPORE: The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has launched a new iPhone application to give users up-to-date crime alerts and crime prevention advisories.

Users can also view crime statistics around their neighbourhood and get information on missing persons via this free application.

The Police@SG on iPhone App is to be launched on Friday at the HDB Toa Payoh Hub as part of the "Enjoying a Digital Lifestyle 2011" exhibition.

Users can download the application for free from the iTunes Store or from the Singapore Police Force's Facebook page.

It is one of two applications the police developed this year.

The other is the PoliceLife@SG iPad app, which lets members read the police's in-house magazine using iPad.

The PoliceLife@SG iPad app is also downloadable for free from the iTunes Store.

Both applications will be showcased at the three-day exhibition organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), SPF and the National Family Council.

The SPF said these developments represent a breakthrough in its effort to leverage social media and mobile technology to reach out to the more IT savvy segment of the population.
