Police arrested 2 snatch thieves, aged 12 and 17

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two men aged 12 and 17 for their involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On May 10 at about 2pm, police were informed that a 78-year-old woman was a victim of snatch theft at a void deck along Jurong West St 25.

Two male culprits snatched away her purse containing some cash, a mobile phone and house keys.

Upon receiving the report, officers commenced a search of the area and spotted the two suspects who fit the given description.

Following an interview with the duo, the officers recovered the stolen items belonging to the victim and placed both suspects under arrest at about 3pm.

The 17-year-old suspect will be charged in court on May 11, 2013 for an offence of snatch theft with common intention punishable under Section 356 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted he is liable to imprisonment of up to seven years and caning.

Investigations are ongoing against the 12-year-old.
