Helpless: Workers cleaning up goods burnt in the fire that broke out at around 2.40am on Monday.

Police said that they have arrested a 42-year-old man for involvement in a case of Mischief by Fire at Bukit Batok on Monday (July 14).

The police said they received a call at about 2.40am on Monday regarding a fire at Block 177 Bukit Batok Avenue 8. The fire caused extensive damage to three shops on the ground floor.

The police managed to establish the identity of the male suspect, and arrested the man on Wednesday, they said in a statement today.

The suspect will be charged in court tomorrow.

If convicted, the man can be imprisoned for life, or be imprisoned for up to 10 years and fined.
