Police arrest 10 suspects involved in remote gambling syndicate

SINGAPORE - Police arrested 10 men aged between 40 and 56 for their suspected involvement in providing remote gambling services.
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations islandwide on July 1.
They include Bedok, Punggol, Ang Mo Kio, Geylang Bahru, Jurong West, Aljunied and Sembawang.
During the operation, cash amounting to about $400,000, an array of computers, mobile phones and other documents such as betting records were also seized.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have received soccer bets amounting to more than an estimated $2.4 million in the past two weeks.
Investigations against all the suspects are ongoing.
Those found guilty under the Remote Gambling Act may be fined a minimum of $20,000 up to $200,000 or jailed up to five years, or both.
