Before we consider the "carrot" being dangled, I think we all need to review if we have been "screwed" by the policies for the past years. I hope that anyone who has something to add can expand the list to serve as a reminder before going to the polls:
1. National Service - why the segregation between 2 yrs , 2.5 yrs and now so 2 yrs for fit people and another 6 mths for unfit people ? This is followed by 13 year cycle of reservists .
Many families have been "torn" apart because males in the families have to serve their NS obligations, sometimes at the expense of losing their jobs by finding time and losing out to FTs and foreigners as a result.
2. Bilingual policies. - people especially those born in the 70s have to face being "guinea" pigs of this policy. Streaming in primary school have again segregated students into the category of those who are more talented and those who are pushed into "Normal" streams. It is only when the realization that people can be slow learners that the govt decide to loosen its rein on this policy. Also some families have had to send their children abroad for studies because of this policy.
3. Foreign talent/Casinos - This is covered by the opposition rallies in most of the cases. Government says we need these group of people to create more jobs for Singaporeans but how come it ended up 60% of jobs in casino belonged to foreigners ?
4. HDB - we only started to see more BTOs housing released recently - why was there no control or expected monitor of the influx of immigrants to the country who were purchasing govt housing ?
5. Security - we still need to understand how Mat Salamat escape when he's considered the most dangerous person. Not only that why the brit and swedish manage to spray graffiti on the MRT ? Why the one-eyed dragon manage to shoot someone in Singapore ?
