Card-swallowing ATM
<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->
<!-- end left side bar --><!-- story content : start -->
I TRIED to withdraw cash from a POSB ATM at Hougang Mall on Wednesday at about 8.45pm, and had my card retained for no apparent reason. A customer who queued two places ahead of me experienced the same problem.
As we called the helpline to notify bank staff of this incident, we noticed a hastily scribbled note on top of the ATM saying it was spoilt - obviously written by another customer.
I now have to find time to visit a POSB branch to get a new card - time that is so precious in a work week.
I am surprised the POSB helpline staff failed to detect a pattern based on customers reporting retained cards. The helpline staff I spoke to did not ask me if other customers had experienced similar problems, and I had to call the helpline again to ask the staff to take the ATM offline.
I request that POSB relook its systems and processes to avoid causing customers such unnecessary inconvenience in future.
