PMs agree to high speed rail link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore 90 mins travel

Re: PMs agree to high speed rail link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore 90 mins trav

All this jaw-jaw about mutually beneficial projects could be an election gimmick by the 2 PMs who are both facing increasingly antagonist electorates.

SINGAPORE: Singapore and Malaysia have agreed to build a high-speed rail link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, with a target to complete it by 2020.

This was announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Tuesday during their annual Leaders' Retreat.

With the new link, it will take about 90 minutes to get from Singapore to KL and vice versa.

The two leaders described the high-speed rail system as a strategic development in the bilateral relations, saying it will dramatically improve the connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore.

The link will also facilitate seamless travel between KL and Singapore, enhance business links, and bring peoples of Singapore and Malaysia closer together.

Re: PMs agree to high speed rail link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore 90 mins trav

The train travels 350km per hour. It stops for 1 or 2 minutes every station, sure can make it to KL in 1.5 hours, no problem.

You might want to stop digging that hole deeper:)

Because some people want to be different for the sake of being different, not because it makes sense.

It nearly worked, until LKY moved too fast to take over power...... He should have slowed down with his Malaysia Solidarity Convention and quietly buys UMNO over to his thinking...... see how the British took over Malaya in the 19th Century without firing a single shot ?

8 injured, trains to Singapore canceled after accident in Malaysia

English.news.cn 2013-01-26 20:36:26

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Trains from Malaysia going to Singapore are canceled on Saturday after a train derailed and four of its cars overturned, injuring at least seven passengers and a crew member.

Police said the 10-car train with 117 passengers onboard had derailed as it was passing a forest near the Singapore border in the afternoon after five cars came unhooked from the train.

Witnesses told reporters that some passengers were trapped in the front several cars for an hour without air conditioning after the accident.

Tourists from several countries including South Korea were on the train during the accident but police did not say if they were among the injured.

Police were still searching if there were more victims trapped in the derailed cars as operator KTM railway canceled trains for the day and offered ticket refunds.

Singapore and Malaysia are to build a high-speed rail link between the city-state and Kuala Lumpur with a target to complete it around 2020.
The deal was finalised in a meeting between Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak.
"This is a strategic development in bilateral relations that will dramatically improve the connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore," said a statement issued after the meeting.
"It will usher in a new era of strong growth, prosperity and opportunities for both countries.
"It will facilitate seamless travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, enhance business linkages and bring the peoples of Malaysia and Singapore closer together."
The statement says the two leaders have tasked a joint ministerial committee to look into the details and implementation of the project.
