PM Lawrence Wong on steering Singapore through global change

He is getting too predictable making generic motherhood statements in his speeches with no concrete plans layout for people to analyze. Very disappointing Prime Minister. Not up to par.

You've had two decades of Pinky and his two predecessors before that. Making generic motherhood statements, and strawman arguments, is their bread and butter.

After LKY, all subsequent PMs have not been positively impactful.
But if I remember correctly, during LKY's regime, there were also lots of brickbats and ridicules being thrown at him in this forum due to his regimental governance, no? Even his wife was being labelled as "Gecko".

What else you want him to do to make himself believable?

Swear to die a violent death?
How about results and trends?
Sinkies have been marginalized and many retrenched while migrants reap the best jobs and rewards.
PAP haven't shown any regards towards this.
In fact many ministers have articulated that they would not even consider doing it.
So why should the average sinkie vote for them when PAP refuses to even help them?

He was a dictator for sure, and no one likes a dictator. But he and his cabinet steered SG in the right direction and he was respected world-wide.

Isn't it contradictory here? No one likes a dictator, but still being respected world-wide?

Certain authoritarian leaders have overseen periods of significant economic growth or modernisation in their countries, which may result in a degree of respect. LKY is often cited in this context, though his leadership style involved significant restrictions on political freedom.

So, one can be the devil and the saint at the same time?

If you have time and if you can recall, there were also numerous and non-stop condemnation posts of LKY in the past when he was alive. But I think they're too long ago and may not be available now after Sam had switched to a different server provider. I still remember I was whacked jialat jialat in this forum when I mentioned a few good things about him. I joined this forum in 2010 and LKY died in 2015.

But opinions of him only started to change a few years after his death. People are hypocrites indeed.

The PAP is introducing about 30 new candidates as part of its leadership transition under Lawrence Wong, who succeeded Lee Hsien Loong in 2024. This move aims to create a forward-looking team that can address contemporary challenges. By fielding fresh faces, the party hopes to resonate with younger voters and address concerns about living costs, inequality, and governance.
