<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I WISH to thank Mr Ian Low of the Traffic Police's customer relations branch and his officers for taking enforcement action against errant cyclists who plagued the pavement along Penang Road outside Dhoby Ghaut MRT station.
The pavement there is heavily used by foreign workers cycling from their dormitories in Little India to various worksites in the Orchard and River Valley areas.
Besides Orchard, there is one other area around Serangoon MRT station that needs urgent attention. The pavement there runs past bus stops, where cyclists may crash into commuters waiting for the bus. Every morning at the bus stop outside Block 413, many cyclists ride there between 7am and 8am. In the evening between 6pm and 8.30pm, many ride past the bus stop at Block 201.
This is dangerous to unsuspecting commuters. Some bicycles are motorised and can go faster than 50kmh but are almost silent.
I hope the Traffic Police will come down hard on these cyclists.

It sure looks like the developers are squeezing the contractors hard that they need to the bangras to provide their own transport. Of course, the real culprit is the Familee which pushes up land costs to astronomical levels!

For sure, foreign cyclists often give little regard to the Highway Code when moving around. But they re by no means alone. I find that the cycling culture in Singapore to be very poor generally.

Cycling on pavements is only one problem. Being outright rude to the legitimate users of the road is an extension of this - they would ring their bells at pedestrians - is for me the more important issue. This tells me they do not know they do not have right of way. My policy now is NEVER to give way to cyclists on pavements, especially when I jog. I sometimes also run at them forcing them off the pavement.

Another problem is going against the flow of traffic. About two weeks ago, an idiot (local, not foreign) cycled against traffic in the centre of the rightmost lane of North Bridge Rd next to BBC. I drove my car straight at him until he stopped and got off his bike.

I'm all for give-and-take but these lawless socio-paths must be stopped, not least because they give cyclists (myself included) a bad name.
