please do not show this thread to Sylvia Lim

Well I hope you are right and good luck to SL.

You know in certain circumstances, SL's judgment may be compromised. They have successfully led her to do two things... step by step and we don't know what they are up to now. When a lady fell in love, she will be blind. The reason why SL didn't do that standard stock reply of "no comment" to whether she has a relationship or not is basically because she doesn't want the BF to mistaken her no comment as non-committal to their relationship. They have gotten her there and then.

And now, the curious thing is, she is now out to "defend" her BF of his past love relationship instead of the BF responding to his problem directly. Something is not right here. A man will not let his woman defend himself in such a situation, especially a woman with such high public profile. SL might have miscalculated here, again due to the blindness of this relationship, thinking that she has to show support and commitment to her BF by coming out to defend him. She is basically sticking both legs into this m&d and allow no leeway for maneuver. She is behaving like a normal woman when she is not "Normal" but an opposition politician who is vulnerable to sneak attacks by her opponents. She will need a lot of luck here.

Someone in WP will have to pull her out of this situation here... an attack (don't know what else yet...) on her BF may break her down eventually, neutralizing her politically. Someone must have been watching and feel that she has stepped deep enough into this relationship that it is time to press the button... She is in a dangerously vulnerable situation here. Good luck!

GMS - If I happen to be SL, I have nothing to fear. Agree with you on ISD having PFs on these people. All intel agencies are tasked to ensure that politicians are not 'influenced' by foreigners. Monitoring is part and parcel of their job. They will even know when it is 'red' for SL!

Imo, SL needs to fear only if she 'steal eat' behind Song's back. If other way around, no big deal. Staying vigilant and guarded? Yes, by all means but not to the point of being paranoid. I trust SL's assessment and am very confident she is fully aware of the dos and donts. She might not have many relationships to boast of but there again, she is no fool.

A very profound analysis. Well done, Mr Goh. I always enjoy reading your posts

Really, I think you truly qualify to be a political commentator. Or indeed a very good political think tank.

Quah Kim Song, Sylvia Lim issue statement on woman in picture

SINGAPORE - After a series of photos showing former football hero Quah Kim Song embracing an unidentified woman, he and Workers' Party chairman Sylvia Lim have responded to say that 'this is a non-issue to us'.

The joint statement was sent as a text message from Ms Lim's handphone to Chinese evening daily, Shin Min Daily News.

The photos of Mr Quah and the unidentified, Filipino-looking woman began circulating in an online forum thread, with the heading, "please do not show this thread to Sylvia Lim", shortly after their romance was officially announced.

Ms Lim, 48, and Mr Quah, 61, confirmed last Saturday that they have been dating for about six months.

She told The Sunday Times that some mutual friends had coaxed Mr Quah to sing at the WP's variety show, Bricks In Blue, in January.

"We became close after that," she said.

The former football star, 61, is a widower with two children.

Who doesn't have a past?

According to Shin Min, Ms Lim sent the message to the evening daily on Thursday evening, at around 6.25pm. The couple issued the joint statement after discussion. They were uncontactable before that.

Ms Lim reportedly said in the same statement that the photos were taken in the past, and who didn't have a past? We will look forward to the future, the the times we will be spending together."

The couple also confirmed that Mr Quah had told Ms Lim about the woman before they dated.

In a phone interview given to the Chinese evening daily after Ms Lim's statement, Mr Quah said he and the woman in the pictures were dating for a year, but they went their separate ways about one and a half years ago.

He said: "We tried dating, but things didn't turn out well, so we went our separate ways.

"I have not been in contact with her for the past one and a half years. I don't even know whether she has changed her handphone number."

The photos were reportedly uploaded online in June 2012. The woman also thanked Mr Quah for celebrating her birthday with her in an online posting.

Mr Quah added he had requested for the woman to remove the photos from the Internet before his relationship with Ms Lim became public. But he cannot confirm why the photos were still available online.

He also said that he will not request for the woman to remove the pictures again, or take any actions against online bloggers who have been circulating the photos.

PAP will not be so naive to think that this episode will cost WP votes. It might cause WP to gain votes.

If the hand of PAP is behind this, the motive will be to discourage people from entering opposition politics, since the prospect of having no private life will put off talented people wanting to join the opposition.

But the thing is, and GMS has no clue, is that such an outlook of the opposition will affect the third parties more than WP. If the WP ticket is not enough to attract talented people to forego their privacy, what more parties like NSP, RP, DPP, SDA?

GMS might think this is some form of self-reassurance, but I say, we can only wait and see. Already, the third parties are struggling amid hiding behind smiley photographs, cosmetic walkabouts and new creative but unsustainable initiatives.

PS: When Vincent Wijeysingha revealed himself to be gay, GMS was all quiet. He probably thinks a politician with a boyfriend that had a past relationship will lose more votes than a politician who is openly gay. (Don't get me wrong, I think Vincent is very electable, or at least much more than GMS.)

I agree with 80% of what you say here. I think you know what part (i.e., the 20%) I find hard to agree with.

常败将军

i give you good advice. disappear totally from the political arena and salvage whatever little pride, credibility and face you left. your family life is a total mess now. you should be trying to save it instead of adopting ostrich head in sand methodology.

hi there

1. aiyoh!
2. what the big fuss over such one-night stand thing.
3. mr quah is definitely one scorer.
4. come on, guys! at his age, why not having a fling or two:D
5. get real, please!

When a lady fell in love, she will be blind...A man will not let his woman defend himself...blah blah blah...

Thanks for giving us a valuable insight into your female psyche.

Instead of watching chick flicks and soap opera, you should learn from Sylvia.

Exceptional Women DO fall in love...and Exceptional Women will defend their men...only Normal women will stand by helplessly while their men are being attacked...

hahaha....a lot of kaypohs around so must join in one leg also.....
politicians are public figures so whether u like it or not, their personal affairs will becum every kaypoh's affairs....
that is why most public figures try their best to keep their love affairs/family matters under the radar as far as possible.....
(e.g. LTK where her wife has always remain in the background...hardly known to the public at all)

while i wish KS/SL all the best, quite likely this may turn up to be another fling....as i don't see them getting married......
i hope i am wrong but i see the standard excuse like we "drifted apart and have not been in contact for months" crap surfacing in another 18 months time.....
that will even be bigger news....

so yes, if u ask me, SL should say no comment ( standard wp answer) keeping low profile rather than admitting so openly to such relationship.....as any distraction when things do not worked out is one distraction too many for a public figure.....
