No point bashing the Chinese. Better to just keep quiet, see where Chinese companies are aiming for and keep up.

China are taking aim at US. They want to be the next USA. That is their goal. The rest of the countries are of no interest to them. When I am in Shanghai, the only country which is of equal to them and that they respect is USA!

The current tire sanctions is a good test for the Chinese. Hopefully they do not take a tit for tat approach which would be bad for both sides. Instead, I look for a behind the scenes application of pressure approach.

Very interesting development and if executed well is another rung in China's climb to become another global economic superpower.

After all which other large country dares to say no to the US?

This tit for tat is not going to be good for the world at this juncture. Protectionist tendencies are going to rise especially in democratically elected govt. The electorates of western democracies are going to demand that the govt protects the jobs for the local . The incumbents would be booted out if this demands are not met. Economies are going to be inward looking and that would pose a very serious threat to small economies like Singapore.
The Great Depression of 1929 was made worst be protectionism.

China can be an economic power but will not be a political power. Other countries listen to USA cos they apparently are fair in their dealings.

China onthe other hand will kill their own citizens to achieve their short term goals. Nobody respects such a system.

Most they will be is like the old Soviet Union; a world power but not at all respected by anybody. Countries which does not respect its own citizens rights cannot expect to be a world power.
