as a matter of fact, you're correct. in california, pinoy temp workers are always called upon when there's a major strike (politically correct term in u.s. is "labor action") by union workers. when nurses from the nursing union walk out from hospitals, they call the pinoy pool. when hotel workers union goes on strike, they call the pinoy pool. when garbage disposal and delivery/transport unions go on strike, they call the pinoy pool. unions where pinoy workers are heavily represented and do not face the pinoy pool replacement dilemma are in commercial facility security, post office, airport cleaning. unions where the pinoy pool cannot easily replace are in police, fire, public safety, air traffic control, utility, telecom, auto, air transportation, airport security (tsa). pinoy used to dominate airport security jobs, but after 9-11 the tsa took over. the other temp labor pool fighting for jobs and angering unions belongs to the latino or mexican migrant camp. without these temporal, "cheap" ready labor, sometimes illegal migrant pools, california is screwed. californa is broke long ago with state workers' unions getting high wages, high overtime pay, and hefty pension schemes.
