Heckling has no place in politics

THE conduct of the heckler who wanted to be known as "Mr Hum" was unacceptable when he tried to provoke Minister and MP Lim Hwee Hua ("Lim Hwee Hua waylaid by heckler"; Thursday).

I believe most Singaporeans would not tolerate such atrocious behaviour. Having said this, I urge the police to take firm action against anyone who heckles any political candidate, whether from the People's Action Party or the opposition, on the campaign trail.

This fella is one of the biggest porlumpars always seeking the limelight and getting it; thanks to another porlumpar organisation-the local press! The problem with him is that when he gives his 2 cents worth, he likes to talk like he knows everything. Humility is obviously lacking. How do you define heckling in the first place? The Hum guy was voicing out his opinion to a very thin-skinned and well-sheltered MP/Minister who expected everything to go according to script. Her entourage thought it was an easy morning stroll where they get to meet all their beloved residents/supporters in one grand orchesrated PR exercise for the sake of the coming GE! Imho, Mr Hum was not a heckler. He's providing genuine feedback!
