Summary :

Powerful Ampatuan family gang (with hundreds of extended family members) with their own private army of 2000+ gangster soldiers were in political & military control of their province. A rival businessman politician decides to challenge them for control of their province, but due to death threats, sends the women in his family (including wife, sisters, nieces, etc) to file his nomination papers, together with dozens of journalists and lawyers, claiming he didn't think the Ampatuan family would hurt women, journalists and lawyers.

Over 100+ armed men sent by the Ampatuan family ambushed the vehicle convoy of the women, journalists and lawyers, including 2 sibei sway cars who were not affiliated with the convoy, but were merely driving behind them. All the women (not just all the female family members of the rival businessman politician, but any female journalists and lawyers as well) had their genitals hacked by machetes, fingers chopped off, as they screamed for their lives, before all 58 of them (including the sibei sway 2 cars of unaffiliated bystanders who just happened to be driving behind the convoy) were eventually slaughtered.

Subsequently, the head of the Ampatuan family (who laughed when his men reported all 58 people were slaughtered) died of liver cancer before he could stand trial, and one of the sons (photo below, who gave the order to kill not just the rival's family members but the journalists and lawyers as well), together with a few other key figures of the Ampatuan family gang or their henchmen who carried out the murder, were given lengthy prison sentences. However, most of the 100+ men who carried out the massacre (including extended Ampatuan family members) were either never arrested (remains at large) or were acquitted.
