Penang cops nab three and seize DVDs worth RM500,000

GEORGE TOWN: Police seized 100,637 pirated DVDs worth about RM500,000 in one of their biggest haul in the state over the past few years.

Three local men aged between 23 and 30 were arrested during the raid at a premises at the Sri Saujana flats in Macallum Street Ghaut at 4.30pm on Thursday.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said they had been monitoring the trio’s activities for a week following a tip-off from the public.

“During the raid, we found 62 white gunny sacks and a box containing DVDs of various titles.

“The suspects were packing the DVDs.

“We did not find any machine,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

ACP Gan said police had identified a man in his 40s, who is believed to be the group’s employer, and was tracing his whereabouts.

“The three suspects had no previous police record,” he said.

The raid was conducted by 13 personnel from the district police headquarters and state police contingent.
