SINGAPORE: FoodTalks Caterer and Manufacturer is under investigation after children and teachers at a kids' camp fell ill after eating food prepared by the caterer on Monday (Nov 26).

The camp was held by Learning Horizon, a subsidiary of global childcare chain Busy Bees.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health, National Environment Agency (NEA) and Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore said they were investigating an outbreak of gastroenteritis "traced to the consumption of food" prepared by FoodTalks.

As of Tuesday, 131 people were reported to have developed symptoms of gastroenteritis, said the authorities, adding that none of them were hospitalised.

The camp was immediately suspended after the food safety incident, said Busy Bees Singapore in a media statement on Tuesday.
"We are aware of a food safety incident affecting some of our K2 children and teachers, who felt unwell after consuming food prepared by an external caterer at a camp yesterday," said Busy Bees director of operations and curriculum Ronald Kwong.
"Upon learning of this, we immediately suspended the camp and reported the incident to the Ministry of Health, NEA and ECDA (Early Childhood Development Agency), with whom we will continue to cooperate with to determine the cause."

Mr Kwong added that all those affected received medical attention and no one had to be admitted to hospital.

when you import foreign talents you are importing all the foreign (BAD) habits, food preparation, construction standards, driving on the roads, healthcare etc. All the hard work we have put in from third world to first is eradicated and we are back to the 1960/70s standard of living and I don't mean the per capita GDP kind of bullshit that the G tries to feed us.

fecal-tainted romaine lettuce is traced to farms and packing facilities in the salinas and watsonville area south of monterey. romaine lettuce produced elsewhere is deemed to be ok. many folks got sick because of so called fresh, organic, natural, non-gmo romaine lettuce from california. mexican farmers and handlers there are full of shit. don’t think they reach sg. if they do have to throw them away. washing them will not help. unlike other lettuce produce, romaine lettuce stalks retain bacteria inside. they can stay alive for days and multiply during delivery and storage. this sinkie case is most likely due to poor catering management and care, such as transporting food to venue without maintaining (hot) temperature and serving them in a cool off state while bacteria are multiplying like hungry sinkies in a hawker center. catered food in sg is dangerous when left unheated for over 69 minutes.

even for 6.9 seconds, never eat (raw) sushi and sashimi in sg. cooked sushi is ok. not all sushi is raw. some nigiri is cooked, such as egg pressed over lice or lice pressed within tofu skin. sashimi which means sliced thinly raw meat is no no for me in sg at all times.

In the third case of mass food poisoning this month, 131 people – including kindergarten pupils and teachers – fell ill on Monday (26 November) after consuming food from a caterer while attending a learning camp.
In a joint statement released on Tuesday, the National Environment Agency (NEA), Ministry of Health (MOH) and Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said they are investigating an outbreak of gastroenteritis – inflammation of the stomach and intestines which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.
Outbreak traced to Bedok-based caterer
The outbreak was traced to the consumption of food prepared by FoodTalks Caterer & Manufacturer, located at Shimei East Kitchen along Bedok North Street 5. The three authorities carried out a joint inspection of the premises on Tuesday, with food and environmental samples taken for testing and food handlers being sent for stool screening.
According to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, the food poisoning victims had attended a learning camp organised by Busy Bees Asia. Organisers said that the camp was stopped immediately upon the outbreak of food poisoning.
As of Tuesday, 131 cases of gastroenteritis had been reported. None of the victims have been hospitalised.
Three mass food-poisoning incidents this month
This is the third case of mass food-poisoning incidents that have been traced to catered food this month.
On 9 November, NEA announced the licence suspension of Spize Restaurant at River Valley Road after 81 cases of gastroenteritis were traced to bento-box meals prepared by the Asian fusion restaurant for an event. A 38-year-old man died after suffering the illness, while at least 45 people were hospitalised.
On 23 November, 190 people fell ill after eating food prepared by TungLok Catering for the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s public exhibition Lifesavers’ Connect at the Max Atria@Singapore Expo. None of the 190 affected were hospitalised.
What to do when suffering gastroenteritis
Should one be afflicted with gastroenteritis, here are some dietary precautions to take, according to the Department of Family Medicine at Singapore General Hospital:
  • Avoid milk and dairy products for a few weeks to prevent worsening of diarrhoea symptoms
  • Rest the bowel by avoiding foods that are high in fibre or high in fat
  • Adequate hydration is necessary to treat diarrhoea, and this can be achieved by drinking barley or rice water with a sprinkle of salt or with the aid of oral rehydration salt tablets/sachets

SINGAPORE - In yet another case of food poisoning, 131 people have fallen ill after consuming food from a caterer. The victims included Kindergarten 2 pupils and teachers who were attending a learning camp.
In a joint statement, the National Environmental Agency (NEA), Ministry of Health (MOH) and Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said that they were investigating an outbreak of gastroenteritis traced to the consumption of food prepared by FoodTalks Caterer & Manufacturer, located at Shimei East Kitchen in Bedok on Monday (Nov 26).

MOH, NEA and AVA conducted a joint inspection of the caterer's premises on Tuesday. As part of the investigations, food handlers were sent for stool screening, and food and environmental samples were taken for testing, the agencies said.

According to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, the food poisoning victims had attended a learning camp organised by Busy Bees Asia.
It is the third in a series of high-profile food-poisoning incidents that have occurred in the last month.
Eighty-one people suffered gastroenteritis after eating bento boxes supplied by the River Valley outlet of restaurant Spize on Nov 6. A 38-year-old man died and at least 45 people were hospitalised.
Just last week, 190 people fell ill after eating food prepared by TungLok Catering at the Max Atria at Singapore Expo. More than 1,000 bento boxes were prepared for the Singapore Civil Defence Force's public exhibition Lifesavers' Connect, which was held from Nov 23 to 25. None of the 190 affected were hospitalised.

PAP has done a good job. Only 1 person died whereas in the US many more died. PAP is the best.

LOL...Comparing with many other countries in the world with ZERO death from food poisoning, where does that place PAP-led SINgapore?
PAP LEEders put the blame on the food vendor, and it's case closed. No further action or compensation is needed.

As sounded out by fellow forummers, it could be due to contaminated raw ingredients. What about the water-supply?
The truth is that Singaporeans are made to suffer because of the complacency and incompetency of one causative agent, the >>> >>>>>>>?

Under the PAP we are becoming more and more a 3rd world country as seen in these frequent health issues-including the hepatitis scandal at SGH.
Like many said here and elsewhere, you import Pinoys, PRC's and India Nationals in millions, is it any surprise the place become more like Pinoyland, China and India?
The PAP think by importing all these cheap and low quality foreigners into Singapore, they will become like local "quality "-more like the other way round as their overwhelming numbers make this place more like them.
Like I said many times, why should people pay European/American pricing in Singapore and get Pinay, mainland Chinese and Indian low standards ?
The ministers pay themselves the highest salaries in the world but give you 3rd world standards
