Since when have Sporns allowed themselves to be walked over into such a SORRY STATE? Are they citizens with rights or mere Familee slaves and digits?

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to recent letters discussing job opportunities for older workers.
I am 48 and worried about job opportunities for older workers if this present trend of ignoring older workers persists in the mindset of employers.
Many of my friends in their 40s and early 50s are unable to find jobs, even if the job they apply for suits their past experience.
The Government encourages companies to employ older workers, but more should be done to help them find jobs as there will be more older workers in the market and fewer young ones coming into the workforce due to low birth rates.
I hope the Government will consider taking bolder steps such as tax incentives or other financial rewards for companies that employ older workers. The employer's Central Provident Fund cut for workers aged 50 and above does not help companies take the initiative in hiring older workers.

Passive Income as if in.........if you could further elaborate. I would sure need it.

Passive business as in sidelines and income that does not come direct from your job. For example I have a taxi but I don't drive or rather I seldom drive. I sub let it out to 2 chaps that drives it full time and on weekends I let it to a 3rd fellow. Then there is this coffee shop that my friend and I own. Both of us can't even cook if our lives depends on it but every month both of us get around 4k average from rentals. During my younger days I save 50% of my income and invested on properties. Now I just rent out that property and collect my rent every month. Yes I still go to work everyday like most of u guys but I have already planned for my retirement and if I should loose my job tomorrow I don't need to worry.
On the lighter side as Jabba say bend down and sell backside can also be a sideline. But I seriously don't think I need to do that and I don't think a 50+ year old tushy can be of much value to anyone HARHARHAR:biggrin:

How much did you properties cost as a percentage of your salary in your days?
Fast forward to today and you would be lucky to get 6% gross rental yield for a HDB shop house; even lower if it was a freehold ppty. Commercial ppty loans are at 4+%; factor in maintenance cost and ppty tax and income tax, not much left.
Worse, tenant dont pay you die.

Obviously everyone knows this easy style but that was in the past. Now a TP central shophouse with 70+ yrs left cost $1.6M!. 30% down payment = $500k cash. Were to get $500k cash from?

You obviously belong to the lucky baby boom generation. Cars were $10K back then!

That is one good incentive for the employers

My income back earily 80s then with OT was around 2k and back then 4 of us came out around 200k to buy this old coffeeshop. Later 2 of them sold their share to us and we have been running it till today. I tend to agree with u that the property and income tax in SG can be a handful but from my point of view a profit is better than no profit don't u agree?
Lately my friend told me that he is getting tired of running the shop and think of selling it and I tend to agree with him. Was just thinking the other day of selling it and using that $ to invest in another property and renting it off.

Problem nowadays, after expenses, scenario is almost left hand in, right hand out. Yea, maybe can still put away a couple of hundreds bucks a month, but somestimes, some emergency arises and would wipe out the savings.

Don't even talk about downpayment of 500k cash, 10k also problem.
Frankly, sometimes very worried for future, especially lifeafter41, got older parents/family to take care off, hardly any savings......sigh.
