We would like to draw your attention to the spread of misinformation through two threads on Sam's Alfresco Heaven. The threads, dated 9 and 10 October, cite a recent report published in Lianhe Wanbao (8 October 2013), and imply that KK Womenís and Childrenís Hospital (KKH) is charging patients for a newly introduced RFID-enabled identification system.

We would like to place on record that the information implied by the threads is factually incorrect. KKH does not have an additional charge to patients for the use of this system. The Lianhe Wanbao report referred to in your post clearly mentions that KKH does not charge patients.

We take a very serious view of this misinformation and urge you to remove the threads and issue an immediate correction on all your platforms that feature posts/comments related to the above-mentioned matter.

One thing I don't get, KKH is not earning this $15. Yet they are unable to guarantee that any baby is born in the hospital is not yours if you don't pay this $15. So apparently they outsource it to another company, maybe a $2 shell company? This is world class healthcare for you, no money, no talk. or else bo pao the kid is yours.

Looks like SBF got trolled. Or is this the home of the trolls? No conspiracy theories?

Wow KKH took the effort to email the Boss..

I'm expecting SBF democracy freedom fighter Tonychat to stage a protest outside KK Hospital tomorrow..

If I pay 15 bucks to get the right baby and I DONT? is there a payout? Then whats the purpose here?

You get your $15 back and another $15 voucher for your next baby.

That is what Happen when you ball-lessly wait for 2016, instead of doing anything now.

Source: http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/kkh-debunks-rumour-over-extra-charge-baby-matching-system

An Internet search at 4pm yesterday showed that the rumour was published on websites such as New Nation and The Alternative View, and reposted on forums such as fuckwarezone, Sammyboy, KiasuParents, as well as AsiaOne.

New Nation and The Real Singapore — which did not specify KKH in its report but used the term “SG hospitals” — told TODAY at around 6pm that they had received word from KKH and would update their reports with its response.

TODAY understands that the hospital, which did not issue a deadline for the error to be corrected, does not have plans to take further action against these sites.

When asked if it had the option to sue, lawyer S Selvaraj said it was more appropriate to lodge a police report. “I don’t think it’s defamatory. This is just wrong information.”

Under the RFID system, the mother, baby and cot will be given matching tags. If a baby is placed into the wrong cot or passed to the wrong mother, an alarm will sound, whereas a chime is emitted when the infant is matched to the correct cot or mother.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen had in August warned about the spreading of false information online. He had noted that “in a tense and volatile situation, DRUMS (Distortions, Rumours, Untruths, Misinformation and Smears) can spread very far and wide and even cause confusion and chaos”.

What and who cause the spread of some misinformation on the online platforms of some Singapore-based websites and forums??

Look at the newspaper headline (translated):
Two hospitals implement three layers (factors) authentication system
Pay extra $15 to ensure collection of correct baby

It was only in the fifth paragraph (2nd column) that it mentioned that KK do not collect the extra fee.

If they take a very serious view of this misinformation and will be raising this directly with the entities involved, then start with the newspaper.

............

The headlines was already misleading in the first place, then they dare to say the forum was misleading others? Seriously?!

They'll use every opportunity to demonize the online forums and social media sites. In fact, some of their agents/trolls are already doing it right now, in this very forum. ;)
