The images reminded us of the various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Buddha would rather his followers understand his teachings(Dharma) instead of praying to statues.
假如供养恒沙圣不如坚勇求正觉。＝ Buddha would rather his followers pursue the right path and gain enlightenment instead of spending time making offerings to holy man and building temples.

the dharma is for ALL STRATE OF PEOPLE from the highly spiritual to the simple minded with varying stages of spiritual development...once you have reached the Abhidharma, you would do away with everything...even with the Dharma, the Buddha and the Sangha. You don't have to carry the burden of the Dharma on your shoulders once you have crossed over....

The Buddha does not encourage the making of images and praying to his images. The Buddha points out the Way , but He is not the Way.
The finger points at the moon but the finger is not the moon. It is common to see people praying at Waterloo Street Kuan Yin Temple , out of the thousands very few understood the reasons for paying respect to Buddha. Many would pray for wealth, health and happiness, let them be. There's no right or wrong. One of this day, they may find their own "path" to the Way.
Those who understood Buddhas' teaching , when the see the images of Buddha, they would pay respect to a Great Teacher who pointed out the rightful Path.
I passed by a Sikh temple along Towner road and was delighted to see this on a banner. God has only one name and that is "Universal Truth". How enlightening.

Christians normally don't have problems with Buddhists and many actually respect them. It is Islam and Muslims that respect no one.

I am sure you would say that once they have you held down with a cleaver over your head. Islam breeds hate, intolerance and violence. The only way to prevent it is to remain vigilant.
