From a church pastor:
I have already decided how to vote many, many years ago. How did I come to this conclusion? Let me say this...
I do not have a child. But if I have a daughter and when someone asks me for permission to date my daughter, I may give my permission. My permission for that person to date my daughter comes with a promise that he will treat my daughter with respect, protect her and ensure that she is taken care of.
If he wants to kiss my daughter, he jolly well ask her for permission. If she says, "Yes", then he may kiss her. If he dosen't ask for permission and he just goes ahead and kiss her, I will take it that he has molested her. He has abused my trust. And I will come down on him and he will wish heaven will save him.
This is like my relationship with PAP. They have abused my trust. They wanted to increase their pay. They didn't even bother to ask for permission. All they did was a wayang show in Parliament to 'debate' that issue among themselves and decided for themselves that it is perfectly okay to do so.
To me, that is as good as molesting my daughter whom I have entrusted to their care and protection. The act was wrong... very wrong... very unethical... very immoral. The least they could have done was to ask for permission from the citizens whose money would have gone to paying for them. The moral thing to do was to call for a national referendum -- just for the people to vote whether they can have their pay increase by so much. If the people voted yes, I would have shut my mouth and thereafter remain my peace.
But no. They decided to just go ahead and increase their pay without a referendum. Why? Because they assume the people have given them a blank cheque to do whatever they want.
So, therefore, I have decided then that from then on... THERE SHALL BE NO MORE BLANK CHEQUES...!!! I will vote opposition. I will vote for more people into Parliament to provide a conscience to the PAP who has none. Don't you ever molest my daughter ever again!
This is not just for the PAP. It is for all political parties. If any of the opposition party forms the government, I will vote PAP so that they will always be checks and balances.
To me, it is that simple. To you, it may be simplistic or naive. It is okay. I agree to disagree with you and you have your own decision to make.
So, I will know what to do come Friday, 11 Sept 2015. NO MORE BLANK CHEQUES...!!
