Yeah heard the lease from MRT is damn unfair to the tenants. And it seems MRT stalls in general are not doing well. But on the + side..if the Biz is not doing well,,can tong 1 year and call it quits. But also for MRT,,its target market is those buy and run type,,,no restaurants etc..so if run MRT shop for food (bread shop, sushi, bubble tea and other take away stuff,,just do simple renovation,,,buy cheaper 2nd hand equipment (quite easy to find since so many restaurants are shutting down,,can buy their stuff easily and cheaply)

Ponderosa at Plaza Singapura was my favorite Steak/Seafood and buffet salad restaurant as a kid. Quite sad when they completely pulled out of Sinkie.

That is bad landlords. But don't they signed a lease, the landlords can only raise the rent when the lease is up for renewal.
The standard of drivel they serve at MRT is appalling. Taste is below average, price is still more expensive than a hawker centre. It seems the only one doing a roaring trade at the MRT station near my place is Old Chang Kee. Can imagine how bad the rest is. Like to special mention Anandas Cafe chain, the set meals are reasonably price, but order extra like luncheon meat can set you back 70 cents, or 3 pieces of fried chicken nugget for a dollar fifty.
Food quality differs between different outlets. The same dish may be decent at one and mediocre at another.
The figures don't really show how many restaurants are running on fumes. Stuck in their leases and not making a profit. Alot of leases have a clause in it whereby the owners have to revert the restaurant to it's original layout. Which means alot of FnB operators have to spend more money just to close their operations.
Peesai with it's appetite for cheap labour keeps on forgeting that the cuntry still needs people to go out and spend money. With over 1.5 million slave labour in peesai, who is left spending? The cuntry looks vibrant on the outside but empty pockets on the inside.
So in a way all those restaurants whom hire 90% of FT cheap labour, have themselves to blame in contributing to the overpopulation with low spending power.

In fact it's a vicious cycle and the business owners (or rather employers) has got themselves to blame for hiring too many cheap FTs instead of giving jobs to locals.

As a result, they are not willing to pay higher wages to hire locals but resort to give the same job to cheap FTs.

The restaurant boom was brought about by the casinos, in which there was a surge in tourists and new immigrants. Now that tourists and new immigrants arrival have stagnated, while rentals remain high, it will be a brutal attrition war.
This is one of the reason why Sillypore being a small island will not be able to sustain it's economic growth in the long run based on consumer spending and tourism alone. Sillypore has already lost it's core competency long time ago.
