Parents Complained Against RI for Corruption

Are the parents not jumping to their own conclusions that their donations have gone on to pay for the "sumptuous" lunch on Teacher's Day? Nowhere was this proven or evidenced.

Just because the lunch looked sumptuous made some parents assumed that their donations have gone into it. What the school shld have done was to produce a statement of accounts showing the integrity of those donations as separated from the moneys that went into the lunch.

They pay for sumptuous lunch with fake money? Of course the money come from somewhere. If not directly from donation, still come from somewhere. The donation money has to go somewhere. Either directly to sumptuous lunch or later indirectly plug the account for the money used for sumptuous lunch. Lan par par lan.

Why are the parents thanking the teachers and not the students? What would the students be thinking about their parents thanking their teachers for teaching them? Something is not right? It is the duty of the teachers to teach, if a student shows appreciation, jolly well, it will be kinda weird for parents to be organising this to thank on behalf of their kids? what are the parents teaching the kids? I think everyone is missing the point here.... somehow its all about $$$$?

I read it that it was some kind of potluck party. It was mentioned that some parents went out of their way to cook, or bring their own stuff. So if the food was not paid out of the collected funds, then there shld be no issue.

Are we all guessing here? Anybody knows the actual facts? Like I said, the organiser should open the books, reveal what was spent (if any) from the donations, or who contributed what extra to the lunch party etc etc.

Agree it will be good if the books are shown. I am more concerned about the door prizes, the raffle, and the type of food.

Funny that knight's name is Raffles, if you know what I mean and what it means. ;) :D

The world had changed, it used to be, just sandwiches, tea or coffee, or maybe some 'finger food', but the people had allowed values to change, as a result, display of oppulence is the norm these days.

Must change with the time lah.

Last time very poor - parents or children bring starfruit, rambutan and mango from the Ama Keng farms or backyard to give to principals and teachers. That was the third world time, Now first world where to plant rambutan and mango trees - only in Nusajaya Malaysia?

What do you expect from SG top elite school ? Home draw 'Thank you' card ? The day you enrol your child there, you must be prepare for such thing to happen.Make sure your child can take the peer pressure as there are many children from atas family. All schools in SG should banned such nonsense activities where branded and expensive gifts are use as soft bribe for favoritism. Our society is always using such occasion to promote their commercial wares, just look at advertisement for mother day, father day, grandparents' day, valentine day, secretary day, teacher day, etc.

The press usually singles out ACS as the scapegoat for materialism in schools
I've heard about RI from my friends who are ex-RI & it's not pretty.

Spore has many, many problems & one of the problems is the attitude of our leaders. If the schools here are corrupted how can they inculcate the necessary values:confused:

Speaking of SG top elite school, why did Old Man send both his sons to Catholic High instead ?

If you need to know, it was for Chinese education rather to do with what RI was.

Why complaint no one force them to donate?
Can choose not to what can the school and teacher do. Those do nate more because want face and their name print out on top of the board.

It is a pity that Singaporeans have become an ungrateful lot. Teachers are not exactly in a well-paid profession. And contributions to any Parent Association are entirely voluntary. So what is the gripe here. There were better times when students bring small gifts to their teachers on Teacher's Day to show their appreciation. How much would a lunch cost even if it is sumptuous with so many people chipping in? Just to allay any suspicion, I am not a teacher but I was a parent at the school once and such events were organized by parents themselves. The school and teachers have nothing to do with it.

That is not the point. The devious ones are hoping that the majority don't donate so that their own kids are looked after. Those from poor families are certainly out. The entire point of eliminating corruption is to avoid favouritism.

hahaha....again all the blah, blah....herd instinct.
every school has a Parent Support Group (PSG)......u can called them volunteers or porlumpars as you like.
It is an annual affair that they will orgainse some form of celebration for the teachers each year to celebrate teacher's day. the funds are from donations and sponsors separate from the other school fund raising activities.
Also each school has a School Advisory Committee which will also host lunches outside the schools for all the teachers as part of teacher's day celebration.

You're twisting logic to say the least. The devious ones are the richer ones who out-donate others garnering for more favors for their kids. But yes, the entire point is to eliminate people men's kids from entering rich men's school. I don't know what more to say too. It has is own logic too, just don't twist it to justify moral. The school and teachers are obviously the immoral ones by any objective measure of commonsense unless you or your kid are involved in the tussle.

Common sense will tell you its the rich ones who can afford to do this. I already stated very clearly - "Those from poor families are certainly out" How to "donate", how to "volunteer" when you have to eke out a living. It not a matter of choice when you are asked to donate for such things. This is in reply to Cestbon who stated that its up to you to donate.

Please let me win this argument as well.
