Not many sinkies taking SAF, PSC etc. scholarships break the bond. Most of them that do break the bond pay the financial penalty. There is no valid reason to criticize or second guess those patriotic gentlemen who volunteer to serve beyond the ten-year NS reservist obligations.
I know of at least three schoolmates (one from a year senior, and two from my batch) who served longer than 13 years as a reservist officer.
One served till he retired a reservist Colonel, and the other two were Majors, SAF reservist.
Without any proof of undesirable motive(s), we should give them credit to have been a volunteer.
