This is significant for Johoreans, as one of the aims of the move is to provide trade and investment advice to Singaporeans about business opportunities in the state, especially in Iskandar Malaysia.
Information on investment opportunities in Iskandar Malaysia is now only available from Iskandar Investment Bhd.

It is expected to enter into a leasing agreement with tower developer Merit Properties soon.
A source close to the state government said the consulate office would also handle cases of Singaporeans who lost their travel documents and encountered immigration hassles in Malaysia, particularly in Johor, or became victims of crime and needed help.
"Trade and investment wise, the office will be a point of reference for Singaporeans who want to set up their business here or who are looking for trade opportunities.
"The office will work with the state government and agencies related to Iskandar Malaysia," the source said.

Has anyone noticed the closure of the Spore Tourist desk at City Square in JB, it was on the 2nd floor next to MacDonalds

I guess they have given up on attracting Malaysian Tourists. It was very quiet whenever I visited the mall. I wonder how much more business a consulate will attract

A consulate will be much more expensive to run. More expensive office space & more expensive civil servants. More $$$ spent on non-essential services

Well everyone has to start somewhere and they are trying. Why don't we point out all your blunders in your life and laugh together at your stupidity as well?

And so do you have a better suggestion as to how such things should be done Mr. Banana?

I can't believe some people with an overseas exposure of seemingly than more than just one day could come home and make such a dumb, inane and childish statement as this. Really exceptional.

Are you talking about Singapore's world class gov', the highest paid in the world. Since when have they listened to a mere citizens? In the words of LKY I should start a political party if I want to criticse the gpv't.

As I have already pointed out already if a tourist centre can't make it in JB what makes the SPORE GOV'T think a consulate is necessary, just 10 min away from Spore:confused:

If I can visit JB for R&R what's stopping a Malaysian in JB from just comming over to Spore & doing whatever gov't business in Spore?

PAPee closed the Vancouver Consulate and open one in JB

Is it true

Maybe its because there's no business lah

When I was living in Canada whenever I had to renew my passport I would send it directly to Spore. I never visited any of the Spore consulates at all.

The Vancouver Consulate is listed in the MFA website previously with the address 1305 - 999 West Hastings Street Vancouver.

www.mfa.gov.sg

Cannot find the Vancouver Consulate in the website anymore.

I suspect the Vancouver Consulate is closed when SIA stopped flying in to Vancouver :(

Wise choice, most Singaporeans would visit Vancouver more than Ottawa

Scratch head, why would a Sporeans need an embassy for

After a few years they'll be turning in their Spore passports for Canadian ones & I think you can only renounce your citizenship in Spore?

All the years I spent in Canada I never visited a Spore embassy. I think their main role is to try to entice Sporeans back to Spore  In Australia I heard they spy on Sporeans :p

The fact that there is now only 1 embassy left must mean there are few Canadian interested in Spore, if any.
