Why wait till something bad happens before anyone takes action?
It is true that in some places, there are signs saying "No Cycling" and that perpetrators would be fined. But is anyone taking any action against rogue cyclists?
What kind of protection do pedestrians have against them?
Perhaps the Government could introduce a compulsory public or third-party liability for all bicycle owners so that when something goes wrong, victims can seek fair compensation.
I really hope that the Government will do something about these inconsiderate people.

It's always a question of costs and resources and they'll point to stats like 0.1% of total population and it's within international norms. They'll urge more education and everyone to take responsibility. They're so reactive and will not take any action until too many lives are lost. There are examples aplenty: seat-belts for school buses, barriers for MRT tracks, transportation of foreign workers, drink and phone-driving, road bullies, speedsters especially heavy-vehicles and now jaywalkers and rogue cyclists. The police are sleeping on the job and LTA has one eye closed as long as they get their fat pay. Why should our million-dollar ministers bother? It's not election time yet.

Instead, we read about a recent campaign to catch pedestrians for jaywalking! Isn't it obvious that there is some govt policy on the quiet to keep one eye closed about such road behaviour by cyclists? Perhaps, if even a dozen pedestrians or cyclists got involved in fatal accidents because of this is deemed worthwhile by the govt in its drive to make life easier for the foreigners?

Dear Tang kah wai

It seems you like to take issue with any little things that seems to 'bug' you.

And if you do find it not to your liking , you would want the gov to 'do something' about making it to liking.

Well, grow up,please.

Living in any commual space, requires some 'give and take' as in many other matters in life. It's not something that you could not do, with the issue of cyclist you encounter in your living space daily.

Didn't your parents teach you that or could even your teachers have failed miserably, thru all your years of education , highlight such obvious 'life management skill' onto you?

Tell you what, why don't you trace back thru all those years that you have been thru and identify what went utterly wronged in shaping your perceptions in life.

Who knows? You might end up in the other end, as a cyclist complaining to the gov, as to why the cyclist are NOT being provided with proper cycling pathway and pedestrains are potentiol hazards to cyclists by being in their way!

My suggestion:

Set up neighbourhood patrols. Warn the cyclists nicely during a grace period. If situation does not improve, drag them to the police station. If police do not want to take action, make as much noise as you can, go to your MP, go to your town council, etc. Never rest until the matter is resolved to your satisfaction. Always do this in as big a group as possible. If still get no resolution, resort to covert vigilante action. Follow the cyclists and do things like destroy their bikes or something when they leave their bikes (or even, just whack them hard when they are in a more deserted location).

However, knowing Singaporeans, you will be extremely hard pressed to find even one person to join you. For things like these which are hard to enforce, there is no point depending on the government or the police. Citizens need to take an active stance in improving their daily lives. Trust me, you will suddenly find yourself complaining less and becoming happier when you take control of your life instead of waiting for someone to change it for you.
