It obvious PAP is raising the stake by claiming they are in danger of losing power while WP is deliberately lowering the bar by campigning on the premises that they dont have the intention to takeover the govt (for the moment) but merely working towards a more even parliament to provide checks and balance.

To simply put it, WP wants to contest in the 50kg category while PAP the 100kg boxer wants the 50kg boxer WP to fight under the 100kg category.

By putting the right to govern in the line of fire, PAP is hitting opposition in 2 ways.

1. Opposition inability to offer an alternative government to replace PAP.

2. Capitalise on voters cold feet snydrome in order to make them adopt a more cautious approach when comes to casting their votes and even u-turn knowing that there is a realistic chance that PAP might lose power.

There are plenty of redundant PAP MPs right now that aren't doing much but drawing their obscene pay, for example LKY, GCT, WKS,..... LKY is a a 90+ & waiting to die. He might have isome pull with the older generation but many of them are unhappy that they can't touch their CPF.

Only PAP has the resources to know and I am sure they do conduct internal straw poll to gauge the level of support from time to time. For us, we can only get an idea whether the the ground is sweet or sour but what we don't know is how bad or good the numbers are.

For sure we know level of support for PAP is eroding and this is the reason why lhl had to sound the note of caution that PAP might lose power in order to deter voters who would otherwise vote opposition. If the level of support is strong, there is no need to say such thing. In the past when support for PAP was sky high, words like 'never threaten us with your votes', 'we are deaf to criticisms', 'anything below 70% would be a failure'...etc see whether any PAP leader dare to utter such thing now.

Sibei farnie, ....cannot reconcile his logic......granted that parliament is a subset of government....but is it not parliament debates and provide the directions and objectives for which the government agencies formulate policies and execute to meet those objectives

I can understand Lee is just doing his job to rally the morale of PAP members. But most people expect that not only is it impossible to win back the 3 constituencies, at least one more GRC is in danger of falling.

Lee said the government acknowledges problems publicly and deal with them. It is fine to acknowledge, but I certainly don't see a number of problems dealt with for decades.

Sim Lim Square has faced bad reputation for years and it is only because of media tools that cases were recorded, compared to the past where people would be advised by friends to avoid Sim Lim based on hearsay. The laws to protect consumers have been weak for decades. CASE has been around for more than 20 years and it is only now that Lim Biow Chuan wants more powers.

If PAP acknowledges these problems for decades, PAP is effectively reminding us of their incompetence, then why should I vote for them.

What he said was PAP will do its best to win back those places and this will take years but they will try like for Sitoh in Potong Pasir.

If he acknowledges it will take years, it definitely can't be 2016. I don't mind if it takes as long as Potong Pasir because that took 27 years. In 20 years, more than these 7 seats will be captured by the opposition.
