DPM Wong Kan Seng went around his constituency Bishan Toa Payoh recently.

Some one sent me the facebook collection of photos which is supposedly a record of the walk at Blk 144 Bishan St 12.

This is not just another PAP MP or minister. This is the DPM, technically speaking the second in charge of the PAP government. Elections round the corner?

I ask you as an OPPOSITION just ONE QUESTION.

You people got enough candidates to contest the WHOLE of Singapore this Erections?

If not, don't waste people's time lah.

So what they started their walkabout. If you guys do not have enough candidates to contest the whole of Singapore this time around, YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS.

No need to unite into one party. That will be an impossible task. But the Oppo parties shld agree not to have three-corner fights. 3 corner fights would only split the Oppo votes and benefit the PAP. History has many lessons.

In the GRCs, perhaps a coalition can be formed amongst the Oppo parties to take on the PAP. But trouble is, everybody wants to be Indian chief, and nobody wants to follow. Party leaders are egoists and strong personality types, so expecting one party boss to bow to another's leadership will be almost insurmountable challenge. That is why uniting is a pipe dream and avoiding 3 corner fights is a better strategy.

Oppo can also 'unite' on a common slogan or tagline - e.g. A vote for the Oppo is a No vote to PAP's "sins".

What is worrying is that someone mentioned that PAP may plant spoilers to force 3 corners fight.

It's going to be devastating if it happens, can't really think of a good way to counter that. Otherwise, PAP has do themselves in with so many unpopular policies, that for the first time in many elections there are real hope that opposition is going to take down at least a GRC, in my opinion.

The problem is the PAP is a party and the opposition is anything outside the PAP. Any eccentric chap who joins the fray is part of your sanctum and whether you want to endorse him or his party.

We can vote for any opposition to send PAP warning signals, but that anyone who is in the fray is necessary altruistic and everyone else would like us be convinced that checks above abnormal behaviour is assuming.

Few people who quote the Malaysia opposition unity example fail to realise why they succeeded. There are several reasons but in this aspect, each party has built its brand name and the alliance is only 3 out of several parties.

The 3-corners are smaller meat. The spoiler planted, if a cranky figure that talks about having visited Heaven and PAP are aliens who originated from Saturn would be enough for effect.

That exactly what the PAP wants you to think. Don't fall into that trap.

Have to agree with Kingrant on this. There is no need to be identified as one single entity. Everyone party has their own style and the better ones attract more people.

PAP capitalises on one individual to tarnish the whole opposition and we let them do it because some of us tend to think along those lines.

All opposition parties however have to a basic understanding and agreement not to undercut each other via 3 cornered fights etc.

As I said previously, its a huge mistake to think that the opposition is a single cell organism when it is not.

Its also harder to control the opposition when there is diversity. In 1991, the PAP learnt the hardway that there is one other viable entity other WP. They always treated Chiam as an enthusiatic independent candidate and paid the price, thinking that others in SDP were colourless.

The problem is the PAP is a party and the opposition is anything outside the PAP. Any eccentric chap who joins the fray is part of your sanctum and whether you want to endorse him or his party.

3 cornered fights in PP and Hougang surely cannot be small meat. Its the single biggest bane of any viable political candidate to face a 3 cornered fight. Its is also the best known and proven strategy to scuttle an opponent. Paying "independents" with supposedly similar ideology as the target candidate will certainly split the votes enough to cause an upset.

Unless a political party fails to have adequate standards and vetting process, a spolier within the party is very remote.

The 3-corners are smaller meat. The spoiler planted, if a cranky figure that talks about having visited Heaven and PAP are aliens who originated from Saturn would be enough for effect.
