Is there a covert smear campaign going on against the Workers Party on Facebook?
Since the eruption of the Yaw Shin Leong scandal, anonymous Facebook monikers have been attacking WP leaders on the major socio-political Facebook pages in Singapore such as Nicole Seah’s Facebook.
Though there appears to be multiple Facebook accounts with distinct monikers such as ‘Choo Ming Hui’, ‘Jason Chua Chin Seng’, ‘Jin C Cai’ and ‘Joel Ming Peng Huang, the style of presentation is almost the same – typically using a single poster with colorful words and background to summarize the failings of WP leaders like below
A quick check on their Facebook pages revealed they have few friends, they ‘like’ government and PAP Facebook pages and their walls contain nothing about their personal lives other than anti-WP propaganda.
Despite their persistence, these Facebook ‘trolls’ are unlikely to dent the Workers Party’s credibility or popularity as they are almost never reported by the major socio-political blogs thereby reducing their posts to mere ‘noises’ in cyberspace
