Riyadh: Palestine breathed life into their qualification hopes with a 4-0 win against Singapore in Group D of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Thursday.​

Palestine went into the match needing a win to climb up the group standings, and they duly delivered the win in expert fashion as they brushed aside Singapore, taking full control of the first half and holding their ground in the second as they saw out the win.

The first 10 minutes saw Palestine press ahead in search of an opener, coming incredibly close a number of times including when Oday Dabbagh dispossessed Singapore’s Mohamad Izwan in goal, but couldn’t control the ball as the defenders rushed back to clear.

Singapore conceded another penalty at the half hour mark when a defender handled the ball as he aimed to head away, with Seyam firing a rocket down Izwan’s middle for his personal second of the game, and Palestine’s third.

Yasir Hamed added Palestine’s fourth with four minutes left on the clock, after tapping in a rebound when Izwan failed to punch Bahdari’s header clear, putting the win further beyond doubt.
With this result, Palestine have leapfrogged both Yemen and Singapore into third place, with their final match coming on June 15 against Yemen, while Singapore face Uzbekistan in four days’ time.
