A man was lynched by a mob after he allegedly made blasphemous remarks during a rally of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The incident took place on Saturday when the deceased, Maulana Nigar, was addressing the rally of PTI’s local chapter in Sawaldher in Mardan, The News International reported.

As he was winding-up his speech, he allegedly made blasphemous remarks which angered the audience present at the rally. More number of people increased within no time and they lynched Nigar, killing him on the spot, an official said.

The body was shifted by the police for post-mortem and security personnel have been deployed in the area. Legal action is being taken, Muhammad Ali Khan, Regional Police Officer, Mardan, told The News International.

Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Azam Khan, condemned the incident and directed the police to maintain law and order. He advised politicians against giving statements that could incite violence.

He also urged people not to take the law into their hands.

Blasphemy is a sensitive issue in Pakistan, where even unproven allegations can incite violence by mobs….
