It is really frustrating to have overzealous, indecisive and incompetent security personnels in our midst.
The personnels from Aetos, Certis Cisco, SATs and many others are in fact doing a greatest disservice to the SPF.
They are definitely an indisciplined lot, poorly-trained by incompetent trainers and a disgrace to the uniform tnat they are allowed to don. Incidentally these uniform is very similar to the one worn by the SPF officers. No one cares for the colour of the belt - be it black (SPF) or brown (auxilliary policemen). Local people view them as Singapore coppers.
Some of these are "couples" and even walk hand-in-hand to the staff canteen in full uniform (at times covered by the jackets but with "bulges" below (guns attached to their belts).
Many of these auxilliary "policemen" do not know the meaning of "selective checks", often are very rude and some even display signs of indecisiveness. To take action or not to. Asians to them seems to be a "suspected" lot, whereas Caucasians are the "law-abiding and upright" citizens of the developed world.
My example is based on what I personally saw today morning at about 7 am, while taking a stroll along Changi Coastal Road from the direction of the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.
A young Chinese family (comprising of wife, husband and two little kids) were watching the planes taking off. These local couple was standing close to the double-fence. Also present were some Caucasian cyclists. The Chinese lady was showing the excited kids the planes roaring to take-off. The kids were all smiles. The Caucasians were also doing the same with their bicycles lying on the grass-verge.
Along came a perimeter patrol and some auxilliary guards came out and shouted at the Chinese couple to move-off immediately or face charges. As was the case, the Chinese couple moved off. The security guards said nothing to the Caucasian bunch.
I then had a word with the kids father and asked him that he should have challenged the guards against the threat of "charges". He told me that it is not worth the while as these people will "frame false charges" against him. According to him, his friend became one such victim a few years ago when he told off an auxilliary policeman for being rude. He was charged for abusing the policemen and was fined.
Why are Asians, especially Singapore citizens viewed as suspects always, whereas Caucasians are viewed as the "law-by-law" type.?
Could it also be that the Caucasians (though many were still barbarians and staying in caves, when Asian Civilisations were flourishing) happened to be the ruling people who control Asia for a long time and hence worthy of the respect.
In conclusion, why can't couples with little kids be allowed to view the planes taking off?
What security risks does this poor locals pose?
What will this kids think of the authorities here when they grow up?
If these innocent viewers are such a dangerous and suspected lot, then please make a high wall (like Changi prison) to cover the runways completely.
I am ashamed of being a Singaporean to be ticked off by overzealous, incompetent and indisciplined foreign policemen, some of them may even be former rubber-tappers, illicit samsu operators, dulang-washers or "jaga-kereta boys.
