Singapore's Orchard Road came out tops in a global survey that ranked the world's top shopping areas, based on criteria like appearance, atmosphere and how welcoming staff were, among others.
Conducted by Presence Mystery Shopping, a Paris-based market consulting company, the survey scored Orchard Road 89 points out of a possible 100, beating out other famous international destinations like Champs Elysées in Paris, France and Japan's Ginza Line.
Shopping areas were judged by four criteria. 'Appearance' was a measure of a district's cleanliness and lighting, 'Welcome' rated staff greetings, courtesy and availability, 'Atmosphere' looked into details like how many garbage cans available, whether there was open space and clean pavements, while 'Contact' was about how ready passers-by were with directions and help.
