Oppos' Landslide Defeat a Wake Up Call to Opposition Parties & SGs

1. The % of New Citizens is likely much larger that is officially reported. At the rate the FAP imports foreigners to replace us, not only SGs become a minority in their own country, SGs will eventually be driven into extinction. All that have been built up by past and current generations of SGs will be handed to foreigners on a silver platter - FREE OF CHARGE!

2. The Opposition parties will do well to discard their differences and coalesce into one party under a common leadership. After that, start to prepare to be the next government rather than as a check to the FAP. Oppo supporters have been calling for the Oppos to merge, but this call has apparently fallen on deaf ears. If the differences are too big to bridge, the least that can happen is for them to rally around WP and SDP. Form a shadow government!

3. Contrary to what the poll results have shown, the Oppos have done VERY VERY WELL if the real cause for the massive swing is the influx of New Citizens. Almost 100% of the New Citizens will vote for the FAP. What the Opposition needs now is even MORE support from SGs to help them help SGs to fight for their interests politically. Therefore, please do NOT give up on the Opposition Parties, but feel even a greater sense of urgency to render your support to them. Like you, they are also fellow Singaporeans. The difference is that they have the heart and courage to stand forward and make the sacrifice to face the barrage of fire from the FAP - for you. You do not desert your comrade when the going gets tough, do you?

4. The strategy of being an opposition that does not oppose for the sake of opposing has lost its appeal; it is a given. The Oppos need to raise its visibility where contribution to protecting and advancing the interests of SGs are concerned. There must be also be concerted effort to reach out to SGs and that means really walking the ground to let the residents know who you are between GEs, and not just before GEs. This is a tough call given the Oppos' limited resources and the FAP's gerrymandering, but then again, there are 5 years to do it.

That said, the Oppos should take heart that 30% of the voters or 720,000 SGs still love you and are still rooting unyieldingly for you. Therefore, please do NOT lose heart. This is only a minor setback. You have fought a very GOOD FIGHT despite all the odds that are stacked against you. Calling this ADMIRABLE and RESPECTABLE is but an understatement. WE FEEL FORTUNATE & BLESSED TO HAVE YOU ON OUR SIDE. WE FEEL PROUD OF YOU!

Its a wakeup call to HDB dwellers-lets see how much "goodies" they can take over the next 5 years.

Strangely people do actually ask for -higher taxes and cost of living, more foreigners stealing jobs and university places, longer wait (from 3 to 6 months) to see a specialist/dentist in public hospitals and more congestion on public transport coupled with more breakdowns.
Will they also support higher minister salaries ? One of those who vote for the pappy may even ask for more rewards for the ministers as 70% think they have done a good job. Some may ask for an increase in minimum /retirement sum so that they will not blow away their CPF on some china women (Roy Ngerng has misread 70% of locals ?). More teenagers should be sent to jail for criticising and hurting the feelings of others.

I guess over the next 5 years more seniors will participate in this uniquely silliporean activity for old folks -collecting cardboards, clean tables /sweep floors/wash dishes in food eateries as a form of exercise and activity rather than being cooped up at home.

In other well developed countries, retirees normally go travelling/tours, play tennis/golf or attend concerts/plays/performances ect2.
The STB should promote this unique Singapore retirement activity -visit us and experience how our senior citizens collect discarded cardboard boxes, clean tables, sweep floors and wash dishes at hawker centres serving Pinoys, PRC's and Indian FT's who create jobs for locals.
