During my time...community centres have television and a lot of the kampong people congregate there to watch tv in the basketball courts.

Those days tv programmes only happen at night....and only for 4 hours !

I had used the CC..."centre" when I was young, not to watch TV though, to play ping pong, ride on the swings. The TV set, has a lock, opened only at certain hours...& switch off at certain time...like army days. Back then, it was known as the community centre..now it is community club(s), it serves mainly their own people & is a business centre or business hub for these people. It is no more a community centre serving the needs of the nearby residents. Of course, they will tell you...there are volunteers!...yah!...recruitment club for PAP members.
